Mount Ayr Elementary Principal

My name is Chris Elwood and I'm beginning my 11th year as the elementary principal at Mount Ayr Elementary School. Prior to becoming the elementary principal, I was an elementary teacher for 14 years and a middle math teacher for three years. During my 28 years as an educator, I've coached many sports and also served as a middle school athletic director. 

 

My wife Callie and I have two children. Our son Dalton (21) is currently a senior at the University of Iowa and he's planning to attend law school after graduation. Our daughter Karly (17) is currently a senior at Mount Ayr High School. Karly is involved in many different activities including the Sparks dance team, basketball, and track. 

Callie and I enjoy attending Iowa State football games, traveling, and attending Karly's various activities.

 

Mount Ayr Elementary School has a tremendous staff and an outstanding facility. We are always looking for ways to improve the educational experience of our students. For the 2022 school year, our building was recognized as a national "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence", we were one of only five buildings in the entire state of Iowa to receive this designation. What a great honor for our students and staff.
