Mount Ayr Elementary Principal

My name is Chris Elwood and I'm beginning my 12th year as the elementary principal at Mount Ayr Elementary School. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from Iowa State University and my Master of Science Degree from Creighton University. Before becoming the elementary principal at Mount Ayr Elementary School, I was an elementary teacher for 14 years and a middle math teacher for three years. During my 29 years as an educator, I've coached many sports and also served as a middle school athletic director. 

 

My wife Callie and I have two children. Our son Dalton (22) recently graduated from the University of Iowa and is planning on attending law school next year. Our daughter Karly (18) just graduated from high school and will be attending DMACC's nursing program. Callie and I enjoy attending Iowa State football games, Iowa State basketball games, and traveling.

 

Mount Ayr Elementary School has a tremendous staff and an outstanding facility. We are always looking for ways to improve the educational experience of our students. For the 2022 school year, our building was recognized as a national "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence." We were one of only five buildings in the entire state of Iowa to receive this designation. What a great honor for our students and staff.
