Elementary School Counselor

Hello, my name is Callie Poore. I'm grateful to be returning for my second full year as Elementary School Counselor! It's been pleasure to get to know so many wonderful students these past couple years and feel excited for our new incoming preschool class in our building. I am a 2004 graduate of Mt.Ayr High School, my passion for education began as a student at Northwest Missouri State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Theatre Education. Minoring in Psychology sparked my interest in counseling which led me to the best of both worlds! After completing my undergraduate degree I earned my Masters of Science in Education with a focus in Guidance and School Counseling. My professional experience ranges from higher education to lower elementary.  What I love most about the elementary level is the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them, as well as the opportunity for early intervention support that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child. Through our Second Step Guidance curriculum I am able to visit all classrooms and cover lessons on having a growth mindset, goal setting, emotion management, empathy, kindness, and problem-solving. 

 

In my free time, I love to be in nature with my dog Jovie, watching Chiefs football, golfing, and spending time with friends and family. This past summer I have gained a stronger interest in growing my flower garden and working in my yard. After spending many years in Colorado I'm fortunate and honored to have the opportunity to be back in my hometown and give back to the community that once raised me. I've really settled back into Mount Ayr and my position as Elementary School Counselor.
